Lip of the Day: MAC Syrup

MAC’s lipstick in Syrup is a gorgeous raspberry pink shade with a mauve sheen. It’s so pretty! It’s a mlbb (my lips but better) shade, and so it can be worn with a lot of different looks without being too much. I find when I pair it with Subculture lip pencil, also from MAC (almost exactly like my natural lip shade), it goes on more opaque and also lasts longer. One of my favourite everyday shades!

China Glaze For Audrey

I’m sure you’ve all seen this one before. I’ll still put it up here, ’cause it’s such a gorgeous blue! Inspired by the boxes from Tiffany, this is a gorgeous creme from China Glaze.

Application on this one was good, above is two coats. Gorgeous shade! I’m also wearing it on my toes, but I must say it’s far prettier on the hands. Love! Seche Vite top coat.

The too-frosty lipstick

Ick, I’m not a fan of frost lipsticks. Which is why I’m surprised I bought this one, a super-frosty peach lipstick by Revlon: the Super lustrous pearl in the shade Apricot Fancy

As well as being too frosty, it’s actually too orange too. It clearly needs a gloss! Watch what happens when it’s paired with MAC’s Plushglass in Plus Luxe:

Voila! One of my favourite lip combinations. Looks gorgeous with a warm toned smokey eye, an almost nude eye and purples.

Vex with Club and Humid

Today’s look was made using some of my favourite eyeshadows. Vex is a Frost with pink and green duochrome, Club is a frost with green and brown duochrome, and Humid is a clear green. Granted, Humid is not the shade I reach for most often (I haven’t got the hang of it yet), but Vex and Club are two of my favourites.

Vex is brilliant as a wash, and made me like the one-eyeshadow look (I prefer using 5 or 6 in one look). Maybe because it’s a duochrome? Club is gorgeous to deepen the crease, and is great as a lid colour for some, but what I really like about it is that it doesn’t say BROWN! or GREEN! it’s an indescribable colour that looks different in different lights, and paired with other colours.

Products used:

  • Benefit f.y eye primer
  • MAC Paintpot in Painterly
  • MAC eyeshadows in Vanilla (highlight), Vex (lid), Club (outer lid and crease), Humid (lower lashline)
  • MAC Blacktrack fluidline
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara
  • H&M brow pencil in Light Brown

Lips: MAC Get Rich Quick

This Dazzleglass from MAC found its way to my cart quite by accident. I had Vanilla and Vex eyeshadows from MAC in my cart and ready to go, and was just browsing through the rest of the site. And there it was, a MAC Dazzleglass priced at $8. Suddenly, without thinking or looking up the shade, it was in my cart and paid for and shipped. Ooops?

Since packets like these usually take at least 8 days to come to my mail box, I had some time to surf around. Darn. It was the ugliest shade of lipgloss released by MAC for quite some time, according to the pictures. I was scared. Some reviews on MakeupAlley claimed it wasn’t as brown on the lips as it appeared on the swatches, and I had hope.

I completely agree with them. Yes, it is a brown gloss and yes, it does look a bit mature on the lips. But I really like it! It’s something completely different from the ones I have from before, and if a lipstick is ever too cool, I think this will be perfect to warm it up just a little.Being a Dazzleglass, it is quite sticky and very sparkley. Not for the timid!

So I tell you: don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with lipgloss colours – since they’re so sheer they could end up doing very interesting things!

Aquadisiac with Copperplate and Silver Ring

Blog post number 100! Yay!

This is my first go with Aquadisiac, which I bought a few weeks back when I was at the MAC counter. I had to get it, it looks so extremely attractive in the pot! I didn’t know how I would wear it when I first got it, or wether I would like it (it is a Lustre, after all). I really do like it though! It’s as pretty on the lid as it is in the pot, complements blue eyes wonderfully, didn’t give me any fallout like I suspected and was easy to work with.
I did find, however, that my eyeshadow creased a lot quicker than normal today. I don’t know if that’s because of Aquadisiac (highly doubt it), or maybe the primer I used, Benefit f.y eye, don’t like being paired with the NYX jumbo pencils?

Next time I’ll try it with UDPP.

Products used:

  • Benefit f.y eye primer
  • NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk
  • MAC eyeshadows: Aquadisiac (inner lid), Copperplate (outer lid and crease), Silver Ring (lower lashline), Nylon (tear duct), Blanc Type (highlight)
  • MAC Kohl Power Feline on lower lashline
  • MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara
  • H&M brow pencil in Light Brown

Lips: MAC Girl About Town

MAC’s Girl About Town is a WHOA! fuchsia pink that is a little bit shiny and also has some small shimmers in it. It’s an Amplified Creme formula, which means it’s very opaque and creamy. I find this one doesn’t seem to accentuate lines quite as much as Blankety does.

Girl About Town is quite similar to Hollywood Nights (Heatherette), Pink Burst (Spring Colour Forecast), and is a bit more subtle than Show Orchid (PRO). I think you’d be set with just one of these, unless you’re a fuchsia lips fiend of course.

I prefer wearing this on its own, without a gloss, but I find I do need to wear a lip liner with this one. It can have a tendency to bleed on me, so I usually fill in my lips with Subculture liner from MAC (the same shade as my lips), but you could do the reversed-liner trick with this too (skin-coloured pencil or concealer or clear lipliner around the edges of your lips).

If you find red lips hard to wear, but still want to try a bold lip, go with fuchsia! It can instantly make your face look brighter and more awake. I like to pair this lip with a light pink blush like So Sweet, So Easy cremeblend blush and black liner and mascara.

In the mood for Sushi Flower

Sushi Flower is a loved and hated eyeshadow by MAC. Some say it has little colour payoff, and some say it makes them look sick. I think it’s an absolutely wonderful shade, bright pink with a touch of coral. I did work my brush in this shadow more than I usually do, so it’s not as pigmented as they come from MAC, think Blanc Type or Carbon. I do understand that pink is a harder colour than others to make, however.

I think they got the name of this eyeshadow just right. I can’t understand exactly what it is, but something about this colour does remind me of sushi – and makes me crave it.

Looking at this look, I think a less frosted shade than Jest would complement it better. Don’t you agree? The frost seems to crash a bit with Sushi Flower’s satin formula. Maybe a matte or satin light pink shade would work better. Any recommendations for that?

Products used:

  • Benefit f.y eye primer
  • MAC eyeshadows in Jest (lid), Sushi Flower (crease), Shale (lower lashline), Blanc Type (highlight)
  • MAC Kohl Power in Feline (tightline)
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara
  • H&M Brow pencil in Light brown

Intense Smoke with MAC and Urban Decay Alice

Typically, when looking at a palette like the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette, or the Book of Shadows II, bright and colourful looks easily come to mind. But there are some wonderful neutral shades there, to be used for a quick, everyday look or even an intense smokey look, like the one I’ve done today.

All the shades in both these palette are either shimmery or glittery. I do like to mix my finishes, and that’s why I chose a matte highlight and lid colour for this look, which made it much more intense too. The shade Mushroom, from Urban Decay, is according to these pictures by Zoffe, an almost dupe for MAC’s Smoke and Diamonds from Starflash that I so want.

Contrary to colour theory, which say that warm orangey tones like coppers, golds and oranges will make blue eyes stand out, I really feel this cool-toned look makes my peepers extra blue. Is it because it’s just so black? I don’t know. What I do know is that my eyes look extra white and extra blue when I wear these type of shades.

Products used:

  • Benefit f.y eye primer
  • MAC eyeshadows in Carbon (packed on lid and smudged lower lashline), Blanc Type (highlight)
  • MAC Kohl Power in Feline (black pencil liner, smudged on lid and on waterline)
  • Urban Decay shadows in Mushroom (Alice in Wonderland and Book of Shadows II, in crease and lower lashline), White Rabbit/Polyester Bride (Alice in Wonderland and Ammo palette, tear duct and inner crease)
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara
  • H&M Brow pencil in Light Brown

I like to wear a warm, peachy blush with very dark eyes, and so I chose Cantaloupe, PRO from MAC, and Creme d’Nude lipstick, also from MAC.

Lips: MAC Chatterbox

Chatterbox is a lipstick from MAC, an Amplified Creme formula. I find the AC’s to go on very smooth and opaque, and very creamy too. They have a nice shine to them, but not too much. They do have some slip to them, so they don’t last as long as, say, the mattes, which really cling to the lips and can feel quite dry too.

Chatterbox is a bright, malibu Barbie pink. It looks like it has quite of a white base, if you see what I mean.

I prefer to wear this shade on its own, without adding any gloss. I usually do wear it over a lip liner though, like Subculture from MAC (my own lip colour). I find that makes it last longer without altering the colour. I’m not wearing a liner in this photo, though.
